The Jourdain
The Jourdain features 41 units of quality affordable housing in the Phillips community of Minneapolis. The Jourdain is the second phase of the Franklin-Portland Gateway development — transforming a formerly blighted and vacant urban intersection into a vibrant place to live and work.
The Franklin-Portland Gateway is a partnership of Hope Community and Aeon.
The building was named in honor of Winifred Jourdain, a former long-term neighborhood community member from the White Earth Reservation. Winnie Jourdain, | | model unit in The Jourdain | “Godmother of White Earth,” moved to Minneapolis in the mid-1920s and bought a home at the corner of Franklin and Portland in 1944. Her home became a refuge for hundreds of American Indians who needed community connections to help them navigate life in the city.
The building’s 41 units of housing range from studios to three-bedroom, “town home” styled family units. It includes six small efficiencies, six studios, two one-bedrooms, 18 two-bedrooms, and nine three-bedrooms. Underground parking helps preserve the grounds for green space and a playground.
