Celebrating the newly remodeled Archdale Apartments 8/27/2008 10:21 AMSupporters of Aeon and YouthLink gathered to celebrate the completion of rehabilitation work at Archdale Apartments during an open house held August 27.
Archdale opened in 1996 as one of the first programs of its kind to offer supportive housing for homeless youth, ages 16-20. Today, there continues to be critical shortage of housing for homeless youth in the Twin Cities.
On any given night, 1,300 youth ages 18 - 21 are homeless in the Twin Cities. Archale Apartments offers shelter, and hope for a brighter future, for 30 homeless youth. Aeon partners with YouthLink to provide supportive services for youth, helping them set and achieve employment and educational goals.
Improving Archdale's operational efficiency and long-term sustainability Archdale was rehabilitated this year to help the physical space run more efficiently as it assists youth in gaining greater stability. The main lobby was completely renovated, with the 24/7 reception desk having better visibility to the main entrance.
A new computer room with three work stations was added for youth to use as they job search and learn computer skills. A fitness room was also added to help residents maintain their physical health.
In addition, each of the 30 units had a face lift with new paint and the replacement of flooring and some appliances. Exterior renovations included a new roof and fixing storm water issues.
Did you know? Aeon provides homes for nearly 70 homeless youth through two properties, Archdale and St. Barnabas.
